DUI Prevention

DUI Prevention can be done in multiple ways, but the bottom line is that this can save lives. This program we found is life changing! Their vision is “Together we can save lives when we create a culture of caring, respect, and safety among drivers, regardless of economic status, and expand access to products, services, and transportation alternatives to get home safely”.

Drinking and Driving can be prevented and that is what the Think Twice Foundation aims to prevent. Their goal is to be able to hand out FREE breathalyzer tests to people at bars, events, gatherings, wineries, and any place alcohol is involved. They want to educate people that combining alcohol and operating a vehicle do not mix. If Think Twice can be an agent for social change, they’ll be able to stop unnecessary loss of life associated with impaired driving.

How We Found This Program

We live in the Seattle area and went to a wine festival in Kirkland. After tasting many wonderful wines and having a great time, it was time to go. On our way out we noticed a booth that said “Think Twice”. Now if you are like me, you have never taken a breathalyzer but probably should have. Well this booth had a digital breathalyzer that people could breath into and get their BAC.

So my wife and I stepped up and took the test. The foundation put it in the form of a game. In other words, guess your BAC before you took the test, and if you were right you won a prize. My wife guessed .080 and her actual was .045 which was kind of shocking. Then it was my turn. I looked at a BAC chart to try and figure out where I should be considering how many drinks I had. I guessed .037 since I had about the same as my wife, obviously I weigh more and had more food. Mine came out as .000 which really shocked me.

  • Be aware of consumption of alcohol before driving (this really makes you think and keep track of how much you have had to drink)
  • Encourage your friends and family not to drive intoxicated
  • Be an advocate to keep your neighborhood and community safe from drunk drivers
  • Give my loved ones (family and friends) a peace of mind for mine and others safety

When you take a look at their website you have a lot of tools at your disposal. A very cool tool, which gives you an idea of what you can drink, is the BAC Calculator. Similar to the picture above, you enter your information and it gives you what your BAC might be. It even includes adding food to the mix and different kinds of alcohol. Take a look and see what you think, I even think this could help a lot of people out.

This is a great foundation and DUI prevention is a necessity. And we have found more ways to help save lives on the road. Take a look at this to get some more ideas on how to stay safe while driving.
